-the smell of desert dust
-friendly backwoodsers inviting us over to their cozy one-room cabin for barbecue and playtime with their dogs
-hikes down long, winding arroyos to abandoned treehouses
-stars
-mountains (REAL mountains)
-dry air (and, thus, straighter hair)
-scratches on my legs
-looking for animal tracks and fossilized leaves in the silt and rocks
-Red Rocks
-roasting marshmallows over a pine campfire
-a burgeoning music scene
-bearproof Dumpsters
-cacti in bloom
-skiing (REAL skiing) on powder snow
-getting away with sweatshirts, hair pulled up, and Tevas, even downtown
-Western friendliness
-
speaking as a child of the 90s...
